Mackenzie Leighton

Biography

Mackenzie Leighton is an American indie-folk musician and singer-songwriter based in France.

Trained as a classical pianist at a young age, she quickly took up other instruments and began singing and writing music. She moved to New York City at 18 years old after growing up in a small seaside town in Maine and played and sang in several folk, jazz, and indie-pop inspired bands. In 2017, she arrived alone in Paris and launched her solo musical career, electric guitar in hand.

Taking inspiration from folk singers like Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel, she lulls her audience into her dreamy universe with simplicity, precise songwriting, and a singular voice. Her style falls in line with the current wave of indie folk artists like Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julia Jacklin.

Since launching her solo project with a first EP in 2017, she has surrounded herself with French musicians and producers and played numerous concerts in France, Italy, Belgium, and the US. Upon releasing two more EPs in 2020 and 2021, "Tourist(e)" and "Fleuriste", she intimately reveals the reality of her expatriate life and continues to make a name for herself in the indie music scene. As Rolling Stone says, Mackenzie Leighton "should put some sunshine in your weekend."
